When our family travels, I really want them to enjoy the sights with me. But inevitably there will be times when they feel bored. They won’t be interested in listening to the audio guide. Nor will they care to admire the architecture with me every single time. While I am not opposed to tablets, I really like to limit it as much as possible while we travel. These are the 5 things to bring to Barcelona when traveling with young kids to achieve this.

Walkie Talkie
Places like Park Guell are huge. The architecture is amazing but honestly my kids could care less. I don’t think this should deter you from enjoying the place though. For places like this where kids can roam a little more freely, I highly recommend this walkie talkie set, especially if you have multiple kids on the trip. These walkie talkies kept them quite occupied. They will even explore the location more thoroughly than you.
Playdoh
Playdoh is just so versatile. Whenever we sat down at a restaurant for a meal, we always brought out the Playdoh. My kids don’t give Playdoh a second glance at home, but when we’re out traveling, Playdoh is their best friend. I usually don’t let my kids mix the Playdoh colors until towards the end of the trip. If your kids are anything like mine, they will WANT to mix the colors. BUT once it blends into an ugly gray color, they will refuse to play with it after. Make sure to get the “special” kind too. This is when I like to bring out the glittery, unusual colors and scented varieties. This particular set is my favorite since it also includes some simple Playdoh tools.
Sticker Books
If your child is very much into pretend play, reusable sticker books is the best substitute for them. We aren’t carrying around tons of toys for pretend play so sticker books work really well in these situations. I’ve used this particular sticker set for over a year and the stickers still stick! I took them on our trip to Korea last year and also take them to every soccer practice/game my daughter has to sit through for her older brother. This one is also a fun option for kids that might prefer animals.
Digital Cameras
Kids are very used to adults taking out phones to take pictures by now so why not let them join the fun? These digital cameras are great because they hang around their necks so it’s not easy to drop and lose. I’m not a fan of my kids taking my phone in a foreign country to take pictures and videos, but with their own camera I let them loose and have at it. They love sharing the pictures they took and talking about their point of view which it really adorable. Also, these cameras come with very simple digital games like Snake as well.
Notebook and Pens
My kids are 5 and 8 so the things they choose to do with notebooks and pens are very different. My 5 year old will draw very elaborate pictures and try to write sweet notes while my 8 year old will want to play hangman, ask for math problems or draw Among Us characters.
The 5 things to bring to Barcelona when traveling with young kids were a hit with my kids and even the kids of the families we traveled with. These items will definitely make your next trip much more enjoyable as well.
